Hello Everyone! Things are going well on this end and I hope it is the same for you. This month I want everyone to listen to some music you don't normally listen to. If you are into rock listen to some classical, if you are into blues, listen to some country. The idea is to broaden your musical horizons. I am not saying you need to go to an opera or became an avid fan of Dolly Parton but it does help you to hear what is out there and trust me, it is not all bad. However, sometimes we need to break out of our box and get a new perspective on things and this doesn't just apply to music but to life as well. Try standing on a ladder and look at the room from up there, it's different and then you get to see a whole new room. Music can break down barriers and can speak when there are no words so just try it, try it for a month and see what you can hear. Thanks

I hope everyone's new year is going well so far. I've been pretty busy with new students singing up and doing some recording of songs at my home studio. I have found a great article about creativity I would like to share the link with you all. I think it explains the creative process pretty well and makes so much sense about what one can accomplish if you just try.
Twelve Things You Were Not Taught in School About Creative Thinking | Psychology Today www.psychologytoday.com Let me know what you all think about this. I would love to hear your comments. Remember when you are done practicing, just play for 5 more minutes! Hello everyone! Today for your pleasure, I have posted some common chords you should learn and memorize. Make sure your nails are cut and you using the tips of fingers. Your finger tips will become sore the more you practice, but that is OK. You want to build up the skin on your fingers so that it becomes hard. If you start to bleed, just stop and pick up the guitar again later that day. When switching from chord to chord, do it slowly. You will develop finger memory, which is where your fingers will learn to automatically go to the chord without you thinking about it. When you play correctly you want a clear sound to ring out. You don't want to get a 'dead' sound or a thud from one of the strings. If you do, one of your fingers might be blocking the strings. Play it again and make sure you are just using your finger tips and the fleshy part of your finger isn't blocking one of the strings. Some chords will be easier than others and you will find you favor some chords simply because they are easier to play. That is common, but you need to work on all of them because sooner or later you will need them all! I hope everyone has a wonderful and peaceful Thanksgiving and thank you for playing along with me. I would like to say hello to everyone and welcome you to my lessons blog. I am very excited to have this site and to be able to share with you the many aspects of guitar playing. I will post things that I think might be of interest to you. Sometimes I will give tips or ideas, sometimes it will be up coming shows or recitals that either I or my students will be having and sometimes it will just be words of wisdom about music in general. If you have any ideas or suggestions just leave your thoughts in the comment section or if you would like to set up a lesson please feel free to give me a call. Thanks again everyone!
Here is an impromptu video of my band, Steel Wynd. Jaime Rhoades wrote and sang the song. I am playing my 12 string Rogue guitar.
